It has been over a week since my last post and that’s just not right. So in the interest of getting this out as quickly as possible I’ll keep it short and sweet.
Normally I try to gather a number of recent articles/posts around a coherent theme and riff on it, and this post’s theme is “schadenfreude,” or delight in the misfortune of another. But this is with a twist: delight in the stupidity of another, specifically the stupidity of other states in our great country concerning allocation of transportation dollars.
I came across three such examples in a row this week:
There are stupid people in Iowa!
And Ohio too!
Read them and weep, especially if you live in these places.
Living in the greater Detroit region, which throughout the twentieth century earned a name for itself by making stupid choices about how to invest its transportation dollars, one seeks joy wherever it is possible.
In happier news, I’m traveling yet again this weekend to another sunnier clime (but isn’t anyplace sunnier than Michigan in January?), this time to Los Angeles to visit my younger brother. I’ve only been there once, but I LOVE LA even in spite of all of its flaws, so I’m sure I’ll come back with plenty to say.
Of course I promised some New Orleans photos. I already loaded them on Facebook, so here’s the public link to the album . Most of them are from the Garden District, since I was mostly in Vieux Carré at night and have not yet mastered night photography. We passed through other Uptown neighborhoods closer to Tulane mostly by car, and sadly didn’t have time to make it to Faubourg Marigny at all. If nothing else, it gives me an excuse to return next year for Carnivale 😉
